Lifeline WA has been announced as the official 2025 Charity Partner for the WA Mining Conference & Exhibition, where the organisation will engage directly with industry leaders, decision makers and workers to highlight the critical importance of mental health in the resources sector.
“Mental health has traditionally been a difficult topic in mining,” said Lorna MacGregor, Chief Executive Officer of Lifeline WA. “Long shifts, time away from family and friends, and a culture of toughness can make it hard for people to open up. The consequences are significant — not just for workers themselves, but also for their families and workplaces.”
At the event, Lifeline WA will share insights from Resourceful Mind, a peer-support program developed in partnership with the Chamber of Minerals and Energy WA (CME). The initiative trains workers, known as “Minders,” to recognise signs of distress and provide timely support to colleagues on site.
One trained Minder, Sarah, reflected on her motivation to participate: “I was motivated to apply because I lost a work mate to mental health struggles. I couldn’t help but wonder if we had the tools to help him, maybe we could’ve changed the outcome.”
MacGregor added: “This event is an important opportunity to engage with industry leaders on how we can build mentally healthy workplaces. Programs like Resourceful Mind equip workers with the skills to support each other, break down the stigma around seeking help, and make sure no one has to face challenges on their own.”
By participating as Charity Partner at WA Mining, Lifeline WA aims to strengthen collaboration with the resources sector and encourage a cultural shift toward greater on-site mental health support.
